What Parents Say

I think he (my son) enjoyed it more than he expected too. Especially the cooking and engaging with some other teenagers in a ‘forum’ to practice Chinese. He was often smiling and laughing while doing things for the program.
— Rebecca Boll, Newburyport MA
XploreChinese certainly lives up to its name, since my child truly ‘explored’ the Chinese language and culture in a relevant, fun, and imaginative way. The course exceeded my child’s expectations by far, and has given him a boost for his AP year in high school and beyond. Thank you XploreChinese!

What Ms. X’s Students Say

“Having the opportunity to practice Chinese during the summer not only helps a student to retain information, but it also gives the student a leg up for the next level. This course was also a fun way to practice Chinese due to games and activities that enhanced our learning.”

- June Institute Student Participant

“Ms. Xu was my Chinese teacher, but also a friend and mentor. I would chat with her on many occasions and even travelled to China with her, and these experiences instilled in me the desire to learn more about the Chinese language and culture. Chinese is a very difficult language, but Ms. Xu is able to teach in a way that keeps me motivated and gets important material across to me.”

— Christine Bourdeu, Bates College ‘21

“I enjoyed it a lot! I liked how Ms. X made it fun and different every day, with games and challenges.”

- June Institute Student Participant

“I feel the way that she really pushed me as a Chinese thinker my final semester in high school really made going to college and taking Chinese a lot easier. I was able to think in a different way than I had before which led to me earning an A. She’s a great teacher, and definitely makes an immediate impact. ”

— Ty Price, Lehigh University ‘23

“The program is a super safe environment to take risks and try your hardest without judgement. It definitely doesn't feel like a classroom, but I learned just as much. The program feels more like an educational conversation then a sit-down-and-take-notes class. I would certainly recommend it.”

- June Institute Student Participant

“I took Intermediate Chinese my freshman year. I took it without a problem because of how effective Ms. Xu was at teaching me during High School. She cares about her students and she only wants the best for them. Not only did she make me a better Chinese learner, but she helped me become a better all-around student in all aspects of learning.”

— Alex Denomme, Villanova University ‘23
